Does anyone have any other supplements they recommend giving the babies? I'm hoping to give them something to help with immune system and/or just a general vitamin. Any recommendations? I'm awful at this stuff...

What kind of lysine did you get? I like the gel tube with the push top...the cats seem to enjoy the taste. The powder I got a while ago and never really used because Muffins won't eat wet food...she licks it and east a tiny bit then leaves it alone.

Interesting... I did not know it came in a tube. Puffy and Chunk love things that come in tubes... like their toothpaste... which I never use. Have you ever tried brushing a cats teeth? The vet must be crazy.

Jen - are you hungover? How happy are you that the Pats lost?

yeah...no. I can't even get my cats to open their mouths. They are all horribly behaved monsters.

But so cute.

This is just my opinion- others may disagree. If the cat is getting a well balanced diet I don't think there is a need for supplements. L-Lysine is for herpes - do they have herpes?Sometimes less is more.

The short answer is I don't know. But they are exhibiting all signs of it, plus signs of a mild URI. Puffy has a goopy eye and Chunk has congestion in his nose/face.

I agree with Lynda -- a well balanced diet for a basically healthy cat doesn't need much if any supplementing. The only thing I might add is salmon oil -- 1000mg gel cap every 2-3 days -- because Omega 3's are very fragile and probably have long since died by the time you buy the food.

As for the lysine, if you think Puffy has herpes, try if for 1 month and then honestly re-appraise it. I'm guessing it won't help much or at all. Allergies, sinus infections, nasal irritation, URIs, even dust can cause runny eyes and nasal congestion without it being herpes.

Thanks guys. Her eyes look better today. I vacuumed and mopped. Changed the sheets. It's incredibly clean in here.

When I had all the issues w/ Cory's eye several years ago, the vet suggested I try an oral gel called Viralysis .. I did just find it on amazon for a little over $8 a tube. I used to draw it up a syringe and give it to Cory that way. It did help, but if I were you, I'd ask your vet before you give it to Puffy. I don't think it'd hurt her, but at the same time, no need to stress her and you both out if she doesn't really need it.
