I didn't know in which forum to place this post. ...

I read this morning that a blue and white ragdoll was given up to a public shelter and taken over by the purebred rescue where Humphie and Bogey came from. The cat came to the public shelter with all his registration papers!!! The cat had been bought from a local breeder with an excellent reputation and then given to someone else a year later. The new owners felt they could not afford the vet bills to have the raggie rid of fleas, so they gave him up. They have two other cats at home, so there will be two more appearing at the door of the public shelter any day.

The good news is that the purebred rescue shelter contacted the breeder and she was at their door in 45 minutes to claim her cat. I checked her website and she has gorgeous cats.

People are such &%^$^% morons.

Unrelated but sort of related to this kind of thing...I was at a baby shower for a relative on my dads side of the family a few days ago. My dads cousin...sort of like an aunt to me...came over laughing and asked me if I wanted their cats. I was like what?? She said...oh yeah Joe (her husband) wants to get rid of his cats. My mom sitting next to me says "doesnt Joe love those cats??" She said "sure...but we love the dog more". I guess meaning her daughters (the one who is having the baby) dog. I have no idea but I guess they dog sit for her sometimes and the dog and cats don't get along? So that apparently is good enough reason to get rid of cats which you "love"?

I said...no I can't have any more cats because I am allergic so getting more cats probably would not help.

I'm sort of glad I am not really related to them (dad is not my biological father). lol.

It just confuses me so...how people just toss out animals and able to laugh about it like its not big deal.

I really disliked our dog Chloe. I mean I sort of hated that dog. She hated me more trust me...the stuff I went through with that dog...ridiculous...her trying to bite me...peeing on my pillow right in front of me...ignoring me all day long when I tried to play with her and then getting so excited when John came home...even though I was the one who bought her and raised her pretty much. It made me so depressed. But when we gave her up, and I would only give her up to somebody we personally knew who had a large yard and a second dog....I was heartbroken and cried for a couple days. And I really did not like the * dog!!!!!!! Even to this day though I get sad about how it all played out.

So how is it people can claim to LOVE an animal and then give it away so easily?

I checked the website of the breeder (Kebekats), but the reclaimed cat was not pictured perhaps because he needed medical treatment before he could be rehomed. Shadow is a 6-year old, blue point and white cat. Here is the website in case you want to see some gorgeous bicolour ragdolls. It seems to be a large cattery. The breeder is a biologist, so you must assume she really knows her genetics! http://ragdoll.ca/

That is an excuse I haven't heard before. But as for giving up the cat with the papers, I've heard of that, but usually with private rescues and shelters.

It is rather sickening what people do with their animals.

Glad the breeder was that responsible and hopefully the person/people that bought the cat will not get another cat! I wonder if their other two are dsh and they just didn't feel they could afford the grooming bills. Flea medicine is expensive tho if you're buying it for 2 cats.. why not a 3rd cat? I hope that purebred if sold again will really get a good "forever" home.

I think that cat is much better off now than being owned by those morons.

I wonder what is going to happen to the other two with no papers. It makes me sick.

I know that I am all late but I thought that the person that brought the cat gave it to someone and they are the ones that gave the kitten to the shelter.

Not too many heroes here, actually. The folks who originally bought the ragdoll from the breeder should have returned the cat to the breeder if they could not keep it rather than give it to someone else. [They should not get another cat.] The people they chose to give the poor cat to do not appear to be responsible owners. They did not realize that owning a cat incurs expense to maintain its health. [They should not have taken on another cat.]

The breeder who reclaimed her cat is the only hero -- aside from the good folks in the rescue shelter who did the right thing and called her up when they saw the papers.

I am a breeder and screen my buyers as best as I can. The problem is that most pet buyers are UNEDUCATED on cat health. They have to take on the full responsibility of the best interest of the animal first and foremost and in all fairness love them so much they will pay what ever it takes to help the cat. I have buyers like this. They love their cats a lot and keep me updated with photos. There will always be the sad stories and one like this is typical of someone that wants the cat without thinking of all the responsibilities of ownership. The best buyers are ones that owned a Persian cat for it's whole life time and was considered a member of their family. Deb
