So I have had Smooshy for 3 days now and have been noticing suttle things like very loud meowing and searching for people often. I put two and two together today and thought she might be deaf so I did a couple things tonight to see if this is true. While she was sleeping I snaped my fingers a couple times and nothing then I said her name kinda loudly and still nothing. I was wondering if deafness runs in all white cats with blue eyes? I know it does in dogs but Im not sure about cats.

You may want to take her to the Vet just to make sure there are no other problems but it sounds like she is. I had a deaf cat, from an accident and they do adapt very well. You just have to make sure she stays indoors, she can't hear when you call her.

Time will tell.No need to run to the vet and pay exorbitant amounts of spondulix.
You will be the first to know if your cat is deaf.
A vet cannot make a deaf cat hear,he can only talk to you and charge you lots of money.

They can make sure the cat is otherwise healthy...she said she's had her for 3 days...a vet trip would be advisable anyways.

I work at an animal hospital. I got here from there the first day I had her and she was given distemper, dewormer, felv/fiv test and an exam. Her ear canals looked normal but deafness is not something you notice right away in a cat, so it was not noticed in the exam. There is not any way for a Dr. to tell if she is deaf other than doing tests like I have done. And No you are right they cannot make her hear again. She is a great litle girl otherwise and I would not want her anyother way!

My comment about the Vet was to see if there were any deformities, infection, mites or a broken eardrum. Since the Vet has seen her this is not an issue. No you can't make her hear but she is still your little sweetie. My girl was the light of my life, once she adjusted you would not know she could'nt hear. :D

Everything looked good on exam, but like I said we did not notice she was deaf then. Im taking her in with me today just to see what the Dr's think. I will let you know what they say. Her ears are really clean but I think I will do an ear smear just to see what might be in there, just to rule it out.
Look what I just found.

One of the biggest problems I had with my girl was she would find places to hide and wouldn't hear me, then I would freak out :!: She also could'nt hear if she was in danger, her sister took great delight in walking up behind her and swatting her :!:

So far she is not hiding, thankfully.
But my boys have not figured out she is deaf and still dont know what to do with her. Is that something they will realize and get used to?
