Several years ago, my hubby and I decided to give the cat show scene a try and entered our Egyptian Mau. He didn't show well apparently because his spots were "too uniform". It was still so fun and I loved the excitement and vendors and all, so . . .

now that I have Lilly, it's crossed my mind that it might be fun to give it another go. She's only about 8 mnths old, so it might be nice to start her young.

The question is - with her being a stray and no papers, I assume we would only be able to enter in a household cat format? That would be fine and I'm not that concerned she isn't papered, but just checking out options as I thought I'd heard that it was possible to have a breed papered with sufficient photos and maybe expert opinion.

Thanks for any input guys.

All I know is there are several people around here that do show Persians in the Household division because the cats came from shelters. I never even thought there might be another option, so I'm curious as to the answer too.

As far as I know to register in the Cat Fanciers Association you must provide a certified pedigree. I could be wrong though - tried to check it out at the CFA site before answering but for some reason the rules for registration link isn't working. Try showing her as a household pet - it is great fun.

Lynda, you might not know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway. As I mentioned there are a couple of ladies who show Persians in the Household Pet division because the cats came from pounds. I've never seen any of the cats do better than 8th or so. I've always wondered if this was a reverse prejudice against purebreds in a pet division. Any comments?

I have never shown HHP< but thought about showing Jack in HHP in the CFA since his color isn't accepted. I don't think it is reverse prejudice, I think it is entirely subjective. There is no written standard for the judge to compare the cat to like in the other classes. They go on conditioning, how well the cat is presented, and probably (this is a guess since I am not a judge) on what they like. Next time I see my friend who is a judge I'll ask her how they decide.

I will be interested to hear the judge's opinion.
That was another thought, about having a purebred in the HHP and how well that would go; apparently others enjoy it. Anyway it turned out, it would still be great fun.

Well CRUD! I just typed this long response and it kicked me off and I lost EVERYTHING!

Again...I have a friend who shows in HHP (household pets)...she runs a program that removes cats from a local shelter near her, shows them at shows and finds them forever homes in this way. But she also breeds Bobtails. Now I am not sure how this works exactly and not sure it would work with Persians because they are a prominant breed in CFA. But Jan had a litter of what appeared to be Bobtails come into the shelter. She took both and picked one to show in class judging. She jumped through some hoops but got him registered with CFA. For each judge that finaled him she had to have them sign a form regarding that the cat was a proper representation of the Bobtail and have to have a certain number of judges approve. Then she was able to get him registered so he could be part of her breeding program. I don't know all of the ins and outs of that but I am sure that it is because this is a breed that is not prominant in CFA and has a small gene pool -- don't quote me on that tho.

I didn't know you could show a Persian in HHP but I say go for it if you can. HHP is fun! We have several members of our cat club that show only HHPs. And if you like I can find Jan's email and PM it to you if you would like to talk to her further about HHP and even how she registered her Bobtail.
