With what has been going on with Maggie, and the loss of Joey, and...well, the list is too long to go on. I would like to start a discussion of what others do to 'memorialize' a kitty after it has died. I know this may be a hard topic to talk about for some, so please don't feel the need to chime in if you are not comfortable.

For me, it has varied with each cat. With Geoffrey (my first kitty), I have a special photo of him which I had enlarged (and need to redo since that one is fading). With Sammy, I made a sculpture of his spirit. With Oscar, I donated money to a charity in his name. With Maya (Maggie's sister), I created an artist's book with special poems, quotes from condolences you guys wrote, the few pictures of her, and some personal thoughts. I don't know what I will do for Maggie -- right now I'm leaning towards a large oil painting of her sitting in the funshine.

Linda do you have some good pictures of Maggie in the sun, the one you posted yesterday is not head on, with her sweet little face. I would love to see some.

I always tell John that when Muffins passes away I will keep her ashes and when I pass away I want my ashes mixed with hers. I have never lost a cat which was truly mine...you know we had family cats and its always sad to lose them but when its YOUR cat that you feed and take care of its a lot harder...Muffins was my first. She is 6 and a half and I worry about her everytime she gets sick or hurt because I know one day when I lose her I will be an absolute mess.

Not to be confused with the movie "Pet Semetary" we have a little animal cemetary for our animals. Hubby will bury them and I will sit and cry and visit it each day until the hurt gets easier. I have scrap books of them and still display some of their pics. Me and the kids often reminise about all of them. Not only does it affect me but also affect my children.

I was living in Phx when I had to have my Jody pts. I buried him next to the large suguaro cactus at my house in Phx. I still own the house and have it rented but should probably sell it one day when I can recoup what I owe on it but will have mixed feelings about selling it and leaving Jody behind. I am kind of attached to the cactus also. I planted it when it was 30-36 inches tall when I first bought the house and watched the cactus grow. This pic was taken 3 years ago so the cactus is now ~2-3 feet taller than shown in the pic.

I totally understand that. I refuse to even consider moving because my babies are buried or their ashes are scattered under a couple of mesquite trees. They are here, ergo I stay here.

I have 2 little boxes with their ashes on my bedside table.
I keep pictures of my angel kitties as my computer display, pics at work and on my fridge
I've been doing my own calendars for the last couple of years- pics of the kitties for their special months.
I'm glad I bought a decent camera a few years back and as a result took too many cat pictures- I often look through them.

I have their ashes returned and pick a special urn that somehow fits their personality. I also have framed pictures next to the urns, and in the case of Fuzzy, I have his favorite toy on top of the urn. But the thing that brings me the most comfort is a locket. I bought a gold heart locket studded with diamonds and inside, I placed a lock of fur of all of my departed ones. I wear it almost every day. I also have locks of fur from some of my living cats, too. I considered getting a band ring made with Percy's footprints on it, but never did. There is a memorial jewelry company that makes them. http://www.perfectmemorials.com/memorial-jewelry/

One day when I die, I want the ashes of my babies mixed with mine.

I have moved too many times so cannot bury my cats ashes in "my" yard. I was thinking to "co-mingle" my cats ashes that have passed on as I have now 3 small seperate containers of ashes or maybe or have one vase/container made with seperating chambers. I have a number of artist friends so was thinking whatever I had made I could have a likeness of eat cat's face made to go on the container. Currently what I have is a large portrait with the faces of all my cats on it hanging in my bedroom. I look at it all the time. My husband and I will talk about them as in "remember when Snowman did.." and so forth.

Linda,

it is a good topic to speak about our memories. Elsa was my first cat and so the first one I lost. I had her ashes cremated and it is here in a urn on a small table where I also have a photograph of her. I also have a small angel cat statue in her color which is by my bedside (given to me by a dear friend here) and a printed memorial with a poem I made for her by another friend here and a beautiful memory book yet another friend here made for me with a series of her photographs and meaningful sentences.

Since my sister has passed, her photograph stands beside that of Elsa and her ashes. I can see them all the time when I sit here by the TV and computer and yes I want my ashes mixed with her's and whatever other cat may have passed away meanwhile when I die.

Birgit
