I am sad. I am overreacting I am sure. Zeke is peeing on himself when he goes. He always goes in the box, but I don't understand why NOW he is peeing on himself. I even had him shaven down there. I don't think anything is *wrong* with him. He is drinking, eating, and playing. But now he is REALLY mad at me because I just had to wash him down there. He meowed real loud like my late Weiland when he had a blood clot in his leg. Not that Zeke has that, but the same meow-like, "something is wrong here". I haven't gotten that particular meow yet and it scares me.

I just want to cry.

Does anyone else have this issue of the peeing? What can I do?

Melly

Sounds like your cat may have a urinary infection and thus is unable to control peeing. I would go to the vet asap. But don't panick!

Is he just peeing on his feet or is it running down his legs? Was the meow when he was going or when you were cleaning him up? Is he straining to go or is there blood in the urine? How old is he? Is he neutered?
Depending on your answers it could be a medical problem or not. My two whole males went through a period that they peed on their feet - drove me crazy! I would take him to the vet just as a precaution.

I don't think he is straining when he goes. The meow is when I was cleaning him, but I always bathe him and he never meows like that!

Maybe he just all of a sudden can't pee right. I feel bad taking him as a precaution, my vet already thinks I am a kitty hypochondriac.

I hope its just because he is still a kitten (he isn't a year old yet).

He is running around crazy right now jumping on my door.....

This is what happens when I'm upset and have cat medical books.

There is also a possibility of the penis (boy part) being partially blocked at the tip either from hairs that get in the opening from self-grooming or partially blocked from a mucuos plug. In either case the urine would not be directed in the proper direction.

As for your vet thinking you a hyperchondriac -- it is better to be wrong and feel like a fool, than to do nothing and have Zeke end up in the ER with major bills.

Thank you Linda. I will try to do some trimming. I saw some long hairs right around the boy part.

I hope everything goes okay with your Maggie Moo. We love her.

Ugh. I trimmed him and he's still doing it! I wonder if it is a litter box issue? Which is weird. I mean, the box was fine up until this week. I haven't done anything different. He's acting fine, he doesn't seem to be straining when he goes. He pees alot when he does go-not the dribble here and there thing, so it doesn't seem that he is "blocked". He pees on the side of the box, maybe it is splashing back on him? But he has always used the side, so I am still not getting why this is happening all of a sudden?

:? :? :? :? :? :?

Mel, I don't have any advice but just wanted to say that I am sorry this is happening.
I hope it resolves itself soon and big snugs to the Zekeman.

It could be the way he squats his legs are closer together and the stream of urine is large and/or maybe a bit less steady/direct than usual and it gets on the inside of his legs? My huband's large domestic tabby has this prob I think just with being rather oversized and urine getting on his legs (and he smells like urine). I used baby and pet wipes to wipe him down after he urinated as when he sat on anything like the comforter it would smell like urine.

HI Mel,

I concur with the others that he should see the vet as a precaution. Maury didn't pee on himself persay but he did pee in great quantities and suddenly was blocked. But because cats are so good at hiding illness I had no idea anything was wrong until he nearly died on me. I think a vet work up wouldn't hurt and would put your mind at ease. Your vet will just need to understand that you are only worried about Zeke.

Keep us posted!
