no, lol, I dont mean exotics. if you go to the pics of the top cats in each division Solids, etc then look at the pics for kitten class, Ch and premier ship etc and looka t the pics I have to admit some do look like it could have been done... Again I had never heard this, it was from a woman who came into my shop looking a nutritional consult with me for her ragdoll that used to breed persians. I am finding there are MANY dirty secrets in the show world that dont get talked about , like ppl entering cats in kitten classes by altering DOB's who are clearly older than their reg states. Trust me, I come from the dog show world..there's all kinds of crazy out there, lol.

I also wasnt trying to alienate the pet ppl, I was just asking a specific question on a grooming technique and as to whterh or not ppl clipped (with clippers) the back to make them lookmore fuzzy and uniform. No one I know has heard of it, so they lady couldhave been nuts or maybe that why she no longer shows...

Since your question was for show grooming, the mods
probably felt it would get more response from those
who do show on this board?

maybe, but since It wasnt annoucing anything about a show win or a birth annoucment , seems like a grooming question to me...

Well, the way it was moved, it is still linkable on the other

I use to show my solid black until he granded. I never trimmed his hair.
I did pluck the head and face and trim eye lashes. The only thing I would do
is pluck an occasional white hair from his black coat. I was told the judges
frowned on any white hairs. I don't know anyone who trimmed the coat
though. I have never heard of this.

Lynda is currently showing her gorgeous silvers and goldens. Perhaps she
has heard of this practice since I have left showing.

A general grooming question would most likely be in the Persian Talk section but
this question is really to show people so that is probably why the thread was
moved here. Not to worry. Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Arlene

I have never heard of anyone using clippers to even out the fur, it would be recognised by the judges. However i do use a stripping or sculping knife for the face to make it more pansy shape and do pluck the white hairs from the black ears and shape the ears so they are rounded at the tip. Its also acceptable to pluck white hairs from a black coat as its considered a no no inthe judging

If you used clippers you could seriously mess up the coat and would be disqualified.

certainly not something done in Australia, as Cherie has said, the most we do here is what you have already said - sculpt the face, remove devil horns, trim the upper eye o make the eyes appear rounder, trim around the ears, and in my case, as I have bicolours and vans, remove white hairs from the dark areas, as there is meant to be a clear division between each colour and no intrusion. Have not heard of evening out fur in that way, but also see no need for it - my cats do have the even coat, the only time I have had to do anything to the body was for straggling guard hairs taking their time coming out of the kitten coat, but don't think many judges would be deceived by cutting back hair on the body

I've been showing and breeding Persians for 10 plus years now...I have never heard of this. I know that some exhibitors will use a small set of mens face trimmers to help with face sculpting and if done right this really can look nice but I for one do not do it. And the judges can tell this is what has been done if it is too cleanly done. Plus it scares me that I will make a boo-boo which can be a HUGE unfixable boo-boo. Sisors and a small face comb work great for me.

Plucking the coat to remove stray hairs is one thing...but I don't believe that using trimmers has been done.

Now...with all that said....I have heard of some Himmie breeders using clippers to trim off the dark tiping on a older or previously shaved himmie in an attempt to try to whiten the coat in hopes of showing them again -- but I can tell you from experience that this does not work :?
