I don't know. With my girl she was fine until 6yrs old, she was close to her sister but after her injury Tabitha didn't know what to do and she changed, she would pick on her. Something was different, Tab would hiss and Missy ignored her cause she couldn't hear. They were not good friends after that. But mine was a different situation, yours came that way so there is no history between yours, mine had been best buds before. They should adjust. |

I'm glad you're taking her in with you today. A vet may not be able to make her hear again, but it is nice to have your suspicion confirmed by a doctor and know for sure there is nothing else wrong. |

there is a definite correlation between blue eyed whites and deafness. So anyone who suspects deafness in a blue eyed white - is probably going to have that fear confirmed. I believe the statistic is in the neighborhood of this: a blue eyed white is about 60% more likely to be deaf than a non white cat and about 20-30% more likely than a white with green or copper eyes. Something to do with lack of pigment in the inner ear- which is more likely if the eye is blue (blue eyes are a result of lack of pigment in the front of the eye). There are hearing blue eyed whites - but because of statistical probability - all people with blue eyed white kittens should have the hearing tested (I believe it's called a Baer test) BEFORE placing the kitten in a home. I did hear that it is common in white cats to be deaf, certainly not all but you hear this often, I wonder why that is? That is a shame if she is deaf, she is certainly a cutie. I'm sure there are tests the vet can do to see if this is the case. |

i rescued 4 blue eye white kittens a few yrs ago and only one could hear , prada has a blue eye white sister as well that can hear  , i have only ever come across one copper eyed white that was deaf it took his owners a few weeks of owning him before they relised .

The BEWs (blue-eyed whites) are most commonly affected by deafness, although as already stated, not all are deaf. For those interested, here's a great article that explains why some BEWs are born deaf. That was very interesting! In reading this, when the statement with regard to human babies "However, they did find that more babies were lefthanded if they received ultrasound treatment prior to about 12 weeks. " was made it make me sit up and notice! I had untrasounds with both my boys very early on and they're BOTH lefthanded! Amazing genetics! |

I thought Mr.Kitty might be deaf because he doesn't really respond to loud noises. It turns out he's just not easily startled lol. One thing I did to check is putting the vacuum right next to him and turn it on. Most cats will run as soon as you turn the vacuum on, but not if they cant hear. Give it a try. |

You obviously haven't been to my home, lol.  Some of my Persian & Himmie kittens come running TO the vacuum when it is turned on. Others cautiously watch from a distance, but still do not run away. Yes, they are of sound hearing and I do not breed for solid whites. My adult Himmies and Persians usually sleep right through vacuum time... bunch of lazy butts, lol.I'm curious about something. Was the main reason you thought Mr. Kitty might be deaf because you are under the impression he is a blue-eyed white Persian? The reason I ask is because judging by the photos you have posted of him, he looks like he could be a cream point Himalyan, in my opinion. That would definitely explain his laid back and easy going personality and of course, the blue eyes.

Mine run from the vacuum BEFORE I turn it on! Does that mean they have "super hearing"...hear it before it happens???
