Best case senerio would be to find a breeder who
has children!
That way the kitties will all be child proofed! :D
Good luck in your seach, I hope you find yourself
the purfect little family persian!
And welcome to you to this wonderful place on the net!!

Purrs,
Joan

We went to look at few kitties a while back and despite a number of red flags that I won't go into here, hubby was ready to break out the wallet, because, and I'm quoting, "That little kitty was so cute." He's such a sucker. I had to give him the death-stare. Somebody has to be the responsible one, right? ...

Ah, can we trade husband for say a week or even a weekend? There's this flame point himi I've been looking at.... :D

Sure! As long as you don't mind him stopping by on random occasions so he can hang out with your new himi. I'd like to say I'm kidding, but he's not exactly shy, and did I mention he travels a lot for work?

And Joan, that's a great point. One of the breeders I'm looking into has kids, but they're a little older. I haven't found any with really young kids. Maybe I should just put out a few ads searching for child-proofed kitties? :D

Thanks again, everyone!

Hi Andi!!!

Just to give you more feedback, my persian is not very laid back at all. She's extremely high maintenance, needy, demands attention all the time, and is indifferent to kids (that is how I raised her though-spoiled her rotten 8-) )- but she is however the sweetest, most precious and loving baby I could have ever asked for. I think you and your family would fall in love with your persian :cat:

Hi, Andi! Welcome to the gang. :flower:

You sound like a perfect Persian owner. I'm happy to know that you are already aware of the grooming issues - that is so important to know before getting a kitty. Far too many people think only about how pretty they are and never go past that.

My Sasha doesn't like kids, but only because she has always been in a quiet household with adults. She loves her family. I wish you the very best of luck with this wonderful breed.

Tomi (and welcome to another member with a four-letter boy's name!! )

Hiii!! Welcome to the site :)

It's great that you've done so much research. It makes me so upset when I hear about persians being dumped at shelters or being rehomed on CL because they didn't realize how much work was involved.

I have 3 and they all have different purrrsonalities. Maddie (16 years old in signature) doesn't really like kids too much - I got her before they were born and then my son wasn't always the most calm child ( ) but she never acted aggressive towards him in any way. She just avoids

My other two boys (Jasper - crazy - and Jacob - calm -) are 2 and 3 and when my friend's toddler comes over she usually goes looking for them straight away (poor things!). We just teach her to be very calm and pet them softly and they are good with her - until she forgets her "be nice to kitty" manners and they run for cover.

It's hard to really know what a cats personality is going to be but as long as they have come from a loving environment and continue to be in one the worse case scenario would be indifference as opposed to aggressive behavior.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome. I have had Persians and kids but my youngest was 7-8 when we got the first Persain, we did however have other cats and dogs thier entire lives. My kids have had pets for my grandkids since they were little. Two year olds can be a challenge. The important thing is how you teach the kids to behave with the cat. Too many people just say be nice to the kitty and then go off and do their thing and not supervise the interaction. It is hard for a two year old to understand the concept of being nice opposed to hurting so supervise their time together. They will catch on and become friends. You sound like the kind of person who would be a good fur mom and it is good for kids to learn to respect and care for an animal.

Good Luck
