That's what I thought it was when I first adopted him four years ago.
He had some feline acne but it was no where near as bad as it is now. He was one year old when I adopted him. They have ceramic water bowls and stainless steel and Corelle food dishes.
I just finished cleaning him and it took 1 1/2 hours. Up to a couple of weeks ago it was only taking 45 min. to an hour every other day which was manageable. I don't know why there was a change suddenly. I scrub and scrub with the gauze and warm water and it won't come off.
It is just stuck like glue to his face.
Thank you for your suggestion. I appreciate everyone taking the time to reply.

Out of curiosity, does he have pustules or open sores? Or is it just black junk?

Something else you might want to try is diluted apple cider vinegar -- 1 teaspoon vinegar to 1/2 cup water. It works well for a number of skin and ear problems, but cats tend to HATE the smell.

If this cat does have open sores it's not wise to use ACV... even if diluted, it will burn like heck. And yes, cats do hate the smell. ;)

Yes, I forgot to mention that! Thanks for catching my mistake.

Fortunately he doesn't have any pustules but he does bleed slightly once in a while when I take the black junk off because it sticks so much to his skin.

I don't have any advice as I have never heard of this condition but I wish you luck with all of the suggestions given. I hope you can figure something out to make things better for you and kitty.

Thank you for your good wishes. I've tried some things but I really need to work on getting the diet right. Everyone's postings of their cats are so gorgeous. I tried to post a picture of Conrad but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I'm not very good with the computer. It's not a gorgeous picture but one of him half way through a face cleaning.
