I gave Winston 3 oz of raw food diet today and didn't give Alaska any because Winston gobbled all the raw food like a little piggy and he has such trouble eating most food and Alaska can eat just about any food she wants to eat within reason (tho gets sick w/diarrhea/vomiting if she eats too much). I feel kinda guilty as I just want Winston to be Ok so badly.... I went out and bought a bigger container of raw food and am going to divide it all up into one oz portions and have to make sure Alaska gets hers as well as Winston. Winston however is in 7th heaven re this cat food and I can only hope and pray he won't vomit those 3 servings and/or get sick because of my actions. Just want to see my little man put on some weight and thrive!!!! (tho want Alaska to be Ok too)!

Yep, truly bad. ;)

One thing on the weight gain and CRF kitties. If you feed enough food that is high calorie, you can get just about any cat to gain weight. The real question is do you want that? Gaining weight does put a strain on the kidneys to process the protein. I've often wondered if getting Maggie to go from 3lbs to 5.25lbs isn't directly related to her present kidney problems. (Although, her starvation was so severe, there had to be some direct kidney damage too. :( ) Anyway, what I'm saying is try for a modest weight gain (maybe 1 lb) atmost, but concentrate on a stable weight. You want Winston to be able to walk steadily, but you don't really need him back at 11 lbs.

Point well taken re protein/kidneys and modest weight gain. I'm hoping Winnie can gain back the lb he lost at least. I'm just thankful he loves this food so much and seems to be doing very well w/it so far (no diarrhea/no vomiting). oops almost forgot to take out tomorrow's a.m. feedings for the cats~ off to the kitchen again.

One other thing I should mention regarding weight and raw -- a weight gain might not occur quickly at first. The higher quality food seems to encourage the body to repair and replace tissues, so for the first bit, the cat doesn't gain weight but feels more solid. Then, after 2 weeks -- 2 months, the body begins to gain weight. The timeframe depends on how much needs to be repaired/replaced.
