We gave insulin to Sparky and it was rather easy. Today we tried the Naxel antibiotic. :o It's a large needle, and you have to pull the plunger out to be sure there's no blood then push it back in. Well that's easy??? :o
Bud will have to do this one. ( He's leaving Friday overnight for a Gator game and he told me not to try it) You need 4 hands. Today it went in but Dakota pulled up just as the medicine was going in. We have 7 more of these. I hope we learn to do it faster and easier. I wondered if anyone else has had to do this. Yikes

I'm sure I couldn't :( I had a hard enough time giving myself an injection and all I had to do was stab myself in the stomach. ewwwww Good thing Bud can handle it, eh?

:? Well we have 7 to go and it's either leave him there (no way) or go everyday so she thought we could do it. I had little trouble with Sparky but this needle is long and it's Dakota!!!! So far he's doing ok but still not himself. He hasn't been as interested in doing much of his bird chasing but he is enjoying the sunshine. He is eating a little bit more.

Did your vet specify where to give the shots? Can it be given under the skin or does it have to be in the muscle (I cannot do this kind myself...hurts me to do it to them).

When Maury was getting daily antibiotics and we changed one to a injectable because of the sheer size of the tablet he had to take....he got these injections 1 time a day for about 30 days...

I like to give them in the shoulder if it is sub-q (under the skin)...I can hold the cat and do the shot all in one fowl swoop. If you pull the skin on the shoulder into a teepee...you can feel the hole the teepee leaves for you with your finger. Do this so you know where to put the needle. Angle the needle in that hole...you can guide the needle into the hole and push it through the skin. Cat's skin is thin but tough and you will feel a slight pop as it penitrates the skin...then push back on the plunger with your thumb so that it pulls the plunger outward to ensure you didn't accidently tap a vein (which is less likely in this area)...then plunge in. I taught my 18 year old daughter to do this for Maury so my husband and I could go on a weekend get away for our anniversary. If she could do a shot on her own using this method..I bet you can to. Mind you, Maury was VERY VERY good about his meds if they were not in pill or liquid form.

Good luck!!!

She she showed us how. This one should go in the thicker part of the neck which is better, more fat. It's getting that plunger in, then pull it out to check for blood that is kind of hard . I'm sure we will have by the end of all of this. :D
I'm glad it doesn'thave to be in the muscle. Thanks for your info.

I know that I couldn't do it. This would be a job for my hubby, with me helping to hold the cat.
It's great that Bud will do it.

I'm glad Daks is enjoying the sunshine and I can't wait to read that he's back to his old self again.
