Is it possible to teach a cat to groom themselves? I ask because Isabel, my newly adopted princess, will groom her front paws, her face, and that's it. In the 6 weeks I've had her, I've never seen her once groom anything else -- that's all my job. She sort of tolerates being groomed, but I find it a bit odd. (I've never had a cat that didn't groom.) On the plus side, no hairballs! :D

LOL... welcome to the role of Persian cat slave!! Misha is 4 and rarely grooms himself either. He will lick us to death while we come him, but does not do much of the work himself.

Thanks for the replies! I'm still kind of mystified. I just have never a met a cat who didn't groom, at least until Isabel. But I can think of worse things to be than her slave.

if there are certain areas you would like her to groom, try this, put a dab of tuna oil on the areas, they will lick it off and soon start to do it with out the tuna oil. that is how I train my fosters that have no mommy..

Huh, I never thought of that. I'll give it a try.
